What is Botanical Anthology Magazine?

If you’re unfamiliar with Botanical Anthology, it is a seasonal, digital, and print magazine focusing on creative ways to add new plants and herbs to your garden, herbal preparations, skincare, celebrations and crafts.

The Autumn volume marks the 10th issue of the publication and has over 130 plant-centered pages and content written by over 40 contributors—including me! If you love seasonal living, plants, gardening, making unique foods from scratch, botanical skincare products, plant-centric decor, nature crafts, and connecting to the world around you, you’ll love Botanical Anthology.

What’s in The Autumn Issue of Botanical Anthology?

The publication is divided into seven subsections: Apothecary, Kitchen, Craft, Harvest, Folklore, Celebrations, and View Point, for easy reading. Each section offers new opportunities to use herbs and plants in unexpected ways.

Apothecary

Botanical Anthology Apothecary

Wherever you are on your herbalist journey, this section of Botanical Anthology offers inspiration for incorporating herbs into your well-being and self-care.

One of the newest features, “Ask an Herbalist,” answers some of the most common questions beginning herbalists may have. This section has some great features, like Goldenrod Sinus Tea by Brighid Doherty of Solidago School of Herbalism and Black Pepper Syrup + Candied Black Peppercorns by Kristine Brown of Herbal Roots Zine.

Be sure to watch our Instagram page for a tutorial on this project! My article, Enhance Your Pet’s Life With Herbs, is also in this section.

Kitchen

Botanical Anthology Kitchen

This section is perfect for the budding chef or foraged kitchen warrior. There are so many great recipes to try with original flavor combinations to pair with the seasons bounty.

If you’re looking for ways to incorporate the flavors of the season, try Heather Luna of Acorn Herbal School's Acorn Coffee recipe or Becky Cole's Spicey Nasturtium Vinegar.

With all the oaks on our property, I’m excited to try the acorn coffee this season!

Harvest

Botanical Anthology Harvest

The Harvest Section of Botanical Anthology offers tips for bountiful harvests, whether growing in the garden or foraging in the wild.

I love the detailed monograph, history, and recipes for Burdock in Kalee Mund’s article Burdock, Feared and Revered.

There’s also a great article on seed saving by Erin Harwood of Plant Magic Within

Craft

Botanical Anthology Craft

This section is filled with plant crafts that offer a sense of wonder and impart just a little bit of Autumn magic to our lives.

Invite seasonal plants into your craft room with projects like Julia Linsteadt of A Farm To Keep’s Apothecary Air Dry Tags, or capture the seasonal shift with Kasey Lawson of Wander Wild Collective’s whimsical Apothecary Jewelry project.

Folklore

Botanical Anthology Folklore

Folklore is a fascinating way to connect with plants in a new way.

This section will shed light on little-known facts, history, and tales from long ago about your favorite herbs.

My favorite article here is Autumn Zodiac Full Moon Teas by Anna Reisz of The Herbology Faerie

Another favorite is the Mugwort Wands by Susan Ika Tuttle of Whisper in The Woods.

Celebrate

Botanical Anthology Celebrate

Find fun, unique, and exciting ways to add nature to your Autumn celebrations!

Learn to connect yourself to the season's rhythms from the Fall Equinox to Autumn Birthdays and Samhain.

I hope to try making some mead this season, so I’m excited to test Serena Hartwell’s Elderberry Mead recipe.

Before pumpkins entered the scene as the season's icon, turnips held the spotlight, so I’m also excited to try Harmonie O’Loughlin of Flora’s Feast’s Turnip Jack-o-Lanterns.
